Engadget giveaway: win a huge box of stuff from Josh’s office!
Hey, you love winning stuff, and we love giving it away. Joshua Topolsky recently spent part of the weekend cleaning out his office (always a fiasco), and as a result, we've got a huge amount of stuff to give away. So huge, in fact, that we're not even going to tell you what you could potentially win -- just that we've got three large and heavy boxes of stuff to give away to three lucky winners. We will tell you however, that there's some good stuff to be had in there! The usual rules apply (and you can find them after the break), so get commenting and good luck! Days Get Shorter Because of Chilean Earthquake [Science]
Apart from a colossal tsunami , here's another effect of the 66.6 exajoules liberated by this weekend's earthquake in Chile: NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says that days will now be shorter because the quake shifted Earth's axis by three inches. The change—which can only be measured thanks to computer models—will result in days that are 1.26 microseconds shorter than before. That's 0.00000126 seconds shorter. There may have been more visible changes, like islands changing its position. One of them, Santa María, may have raised two meters after the shattering land move. This is not the first time this has happened, as every single earthquake has an effect on the planet's axis. [ Business Week ]

The Wrath of God This Weekend [Data Visualization]
This weekend's Chilean earthquake was 8.8 on the Richter Scale, among the most powerful in recorded history. This is how its 66.6 exajoules of energy spread across the Pacific, as shown by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The earthquake—which so far has resulted in more than 700 dead people— was the equivalent of the explosion of 15.8 gigatons of TNT. That's 316 Soviet Tsar nuclear bombs—at 50 megatons, the most powerful ever created—dropping at the same time in the same place. As NOAA's graphic model shows, it generated a huge tsunami that wiped the Pacific, fortunately weakening before it reached any populated coastal areas. [ NOAA ]

Worker Dies From N-hexane Poisoning At Touchscreen Factory (That Also Makes Apple’s Screens) [Poisoning]
Wintek, who supplies touchscreen components to Apple for the iPhone and iPod touch, just got "exposed" for "hazardous work conditions." One of the most severe conditions? N-hexane poisoning , which the company illegally used instead of alcohol to clean screens. In August of 2009, 49 people were treated for N-hexane poisoning, with one dead. The BoingBoing post says that the worker died this weekend, so it seems like Wintek continued to use N-hexane even after they were punished from last year. Casio Exilim EX-S7, EX-Z35 Point-and-Shoots Descend On Entry-Level Market [Casio]
Meet the Casio Exilim EX-S7 and EX-Z35, a pair of low-price point-and-shoots debuting at PMA 2010 this weekend. They aren't going to blow the doors off anything, but that's the point. These are entry-level shooters with a pleasantly entry-level price. The pair feature 12.1MP sensors, coupled with some web uploading software and a 3x zoom. The EX-S7 features 720p video recording and a larger 2.7-inch LCD. The tinier Z35 (above) has VGA video, a smaller 2.5-inch screen, and a naming convention that had me thinking Infiniti. The aforementioned low prices are $140 and $110, respectively. [ DPReview ]
