Line 6 peripheral brings MIDI and iPhone closer than you ever expected

It's no amplifier substitute , but Line 6 has come up with something potentially even better for the budding songwriter buried deep within your rhythmic veins. The MIDI Mobilizer for iPhone and iPod touch is an app-based peripheral that lets you record, playback, store, and transfer MIDI sequences and parameters using the MIDI Memo Recorder software. While it does sound convenient in theory, we'll have to wait until we can try the dongle out for ourselves. At this point in time, price of the Mobilizer is TBD and the release date is the ever-vague Spring 2010. As for the recorder app, it's currently available on iTunes free of charge, although it's more or less useless without the complementary hardware. For now, you'll just have to settle with living vicariously through the promo video, after the break. [Thanks, Fred] Continue reading Line 6 peripheral brings MIDI and iPhone closer than you ever expected Line 6 peripheral brings MIDI and iPhone closer than you ever expected originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 21 Mar 2010 08:56:00 EST. iDongle hardware iPhone jailbreak tool makes hacker life a little simpler

If you needed any more proof that Apple's lame cat-and-mouse game with the iPhone jailbreak community has only served to increase the scene's resourcefulness and creativity, look no further than the iDongle, a slick piece of hacker-made hardware that can jailbreak and activate an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch running OS 3.1.2 just by plugging it into the dock connector. What's more, it allows a jailbroken iPhone to be rebooted away from a computer, which is currently a problem for on-the-go hackers -- just stick this guy in your bag and you'll be good to go. There's only a dozen prototypes right now, but pre-orders are being accepted to raise funds for production -- we've got a feeling quite a few people are going to be interested. Video after the break. How to Save $148 On an iPod Touch [Image Cache]

This is so brilliant, and so very wrong. Some poor soul in Baltimore has lost her iPod Touch , offering a $50 reward for its return. And some Bad Samaritan knows a bidding opportunity when he sees one. Of course, the $148 estimate is just for an 8GB Touch. When you get into 64GB territory, you're looking at a grand savings of $348! I don't know exactly where these signs are posted, but that's probably for the best—it'd take no time at all to whip up my generous offer of $51.01. [ The High Definite via The Daily What ]

Assassin’s Creed II: Multiplayer Available Now, Free For 48 Hours [IPhone Apps]

Assassin's Creed II is one of the best console games of 2009. And now, Ubisoft has released a top-down multiplayer version of it for the iPhone/iPod touch, free for two days. The game, which is to the console version of ACII what the original Grand Theft Auto is to GTAIV, features a top-down viewpoint. The goal is to seek out fellow assassins who you're playing over WiFi and...assassinate them. You sneak around by blending in with civilians. Sound fun? Well, it's free for now but bumps up to $2.99 after 48 hours, so get on it! [ iTunes Link ]

But Does It Play Doom II RPG? (Yes, Yes It Does) [IPhone]

A skeptic might see the Doom II RPG ($4, iPhone/ iPod touch ) as a lame reboot of the Wolfenstein 3D RPG which was a lame reboot of the original Doom RPG. And...wait...that's kinda true. How absolutely soul-crushing. [ iTunes via Kotaku ]

Read SD Cards on Your iPhone With ZoomIt [IPhone]

Remember all those clever iPhone peripherals that we were supposed to see with firmware 3.0? Well ZoomIt is among the first. It's an SD card reader for the iPhone and iPod touch . Used in conjunction with the ZoomIt app, the dongle connects through the iPhone's dock connector to load photos, music and miscellaneous files (like PowerPoint, PDF and anything else supported by iPhone OS) from an SD card. If nothing else, it's a handy way to extend your iPhone's storage in a pinch, or simply backup your photos on vacation without lugging around a laptop (which is my particular reason for excitement here). You can pre-order the ZoomIt for $50 now. It'll actually be available this April. [ ZoomIt via iLounge ]

iPhone Is Now More Popular than DS and PSP Among Game Developers [Games]

Game Developer Research says that Apple is winning the race among handheld game developers: 19 percent write now for the iPhone and iPod touch . That's more than double the amount of Nintendo DS and Sony PSP developers. Other interesting figures: • Handheld games are now 25 percent of the whole gaming market, up from 12 percent before the iPhone/iPod touch phenomenon. • During the last three quarters, all handheld game developers are writing for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch. No wonder why Nintendo's President not a fan of the iPad . [ Electronista ]

iTunes Preview Now Available For iPhone, So You Can Browse Apps Online [Apple]

Very quietly, Apple has slipped a new feature into the iPhone and iPod Touch — iTunes Preview , which we saw last November for the desktop. It allows you to click on an App Store link and be taken to a website showing the app's details, so you know what to expect before downloading. A picture, description, price, rating, reviews and screenshots are included in the app profile, but in order to download it you will have to revert back to the App Store. While it won't change your life, it's certainly a more intuitive way to browse apps, and bodes well for a future where we could see the entire App Store taken online. [ TechCrunch ]

Guitar-Shaped iPhone Speaker Encourages Using Your Phone as an Instrument [IPhone]

This awesome guitar-shaped Bird Electron Ezison 100 iPhone speaker is designed to be used with the many guitar apps in the App Store. How long until we start seeing legit bands use stuff like this on stage? The Ezison 100 is handmade, and there only 50 of them being made. They've got pegs for a guitar strap, are crafted from plywood and acrylic and look downright adorable. They're $290 each, and for that price you get a speaker that the manufacturer admits "may sound distorted." But who cares, with a shape as charming as this? Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection bringing official Genesis emulation to iPhone, pain to your wallet

After packaging and re-marketing to us our childhood over Nintendo's Wii Virtual Console and in a multitude of other forms, Sega is putting another platform to good use in its eternal quest to make us poor: the iPhone. Due for the App Store next month, the upcoming Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection will bring together some of Sega's existing, disparate releases for the iPhone under one roof and add a bunch more, allowing users to buy Sega Genesis games directly from the app. The first one's free, of course (Space Harrier II), but after that you'll be paying a decent amount for your emulation fix: Sonic is $6, Golden Axe is $5, and Ecco the Dolphin and Shining Force go for $3. The variety will undoubtedly grow over time, but we would hope that at some point Sega will offer some sort of discounted megabundle, since you can currently get 49 notable Sega titles for around $20 in the form of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Basically: we're not sure if this is all supposed to make us worse or better about jailbreaking.
