iDongle hardware iPhone jailbreak tool makes hacker life a little simpler

If you needed any more proof that Apple's lame cat-and-mouse game with the iPhone jailbreak community has only served to increase the scene's resourcefulness and creativity, look no further than the iDongle, a slick piece of hacker-made hardware that can jailbreak and activate an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch running OS 3.1.2 just by plugging it into the dock connector. What's more, it allows a jailbroken iPhone to be rebooted away from a computer, which is currently a problem for on-the-go hackers -- just stick this guy in your bag and you'll be good to go. There's only a dozen prototypes right now, but pre-orders are being accepted to raise funds for production -- we've got a feeling quite a few people are going to be interested. Video after the break. Comcast’s Latest iPhone App Manages Your DVR From Anywhere [Comcast]

Comcast is fairly evil, to be sure. But if they're doing one thing right, it's the latest version of their free iPhone app, Comcast Mobile App 2.0 . In this walkthrough, you'll see that not only can you set recordings from your iPhone, but you can do so over the multiple DVRs that you may have in your house. (Note: so far, this function is only available in select areas.) Meanwhile, everyone receives new push notifications reminding you to watch or record your favorite shows...which admittedly sounds a bit useless in the DVR era. If you're watching the clip, skip about 20 seconds in to get to the meat of it. (Not that Scott the Comcast guy doesn't seem very nice.) [ iTunes via Comcast Blog ]

Buy Your Way In To Apple Betas for $100 [Software]

Aside from access to SDKs, Apple developers get access to new OSs for Apple's portables and computers before the public. Now, buying your way in to the Mac Developer Program costs about the same as MobileMe. Formerly a $500 to $3500 proposition, Apple has combined development memberships on all their platforms into one $100/year offer. For developers, that means developing for OS X is really no more expensive than developing for the iPhone. For fanboys, that means you can download the next beta OS without the need of a torrent. WTFJeans Have Specially-Fitted Pockets For USB Sticks and iPhones [Apparel]

HTC may think the Nexus One shouldn't go in pockets , but WTFJeans has enough pockets for every gadget you own. Except your laptop. Or your fax machine. Of course, regular jeans with regular pockets haven't yet been proven to be deficient in carrying either USB sticks or iWhatevers, but these do have a catch. iPhones and iPod Touches can be safely contained in the micro-fiber insulated pocket, which has been measured and cut just right so it doesn't move about, bumping up against your set of keys like it's a buxom girl at an R&B night. There's also a special hidden pocket for a USB stick—though as I usually carry around at least five in my handbag, along with a micro and miniUSB cable, I think I'd need a few more pockets added. Both men and women are catered for by WTFJeans, and they'll be on sale the 2nd of May for 59 Euros, or $80 dollars. [ WTFJeans via Recombu via Mashable ]

How to Save $148 On an iPod Touch [Image Cache]

This is so brilliant, and so very wrong. Some poor soul in Baltimore has lost her iPod Touch , offering a $50 reward for its return. And some Bad Samaritan knows a bidding opportunity when he sees one. Of course, the $148 estimate is just for an 8GB Touch. When you get into 64GB territory, you're looking at a grand savings of $348! I don't know exactly where these signs are posted, but that's probably for the best—it'd take no time at all to whip up my generous offer of $51.01. [ The High Definite via The Daily What ]

Use a Smartphone Car Mount as a Kitchen Helper [Clever Uses]

Most smartphones have one or two great cooking apps, and while using your pocketable device to help out in the kitchen can be more convenient than finding a place for your laptop or wasting paper, smart-home blog Unplggd has a clever suggestion: Our new apartment has some pretty archaic kitchenware. So old, we can't quite figure out how to use the timer on the oven. While we could just look at the clock and determine how long something needs to be on the stovetop or in the cooker, we tend to get distracted easily and realize only too late that we've been cooking for too long. In order to keep from burning all our meals we now use an iPod Touch and a car mount. It's sort of like a tinkering third hand but for the kitchen. I particularly love the previously mentioned Epicurious app for iPhone/iPod touch, and I could absolutely see using something like this in the kitchen.
