Samsung Captivate’s retail package in the wild (update: just the phone, too)

You've got a little over a week to wait before these things officially go on sale, but if you want a preview of what you'll get when you buy a Captivate at your local AT&T retailer, look no further than the shot above. Interesting how the front of the box clearly calls it out as "a Galaxy S phone," isn't it? [Thanks, anonymous tipster] Update: Another tipster has hooked us up with a picture of just the phone itself; it seems that units have started trickling in to most (if not all) corporate-owned retail stores in preparation for sales training. See it after the break! SlingPlayer Mobile for Android beta preview

We can practically hear the collective sigh of relief among Slingbox owners now that Sling's finally just about ready to push out a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for Android -- by far the biggest hole in the company's lineup of mobile players ever since the iPhone version went live . This is no mere port, though; the company is boasting that it worked hard here to reduce load times, meaning the total wait you've got from app load to the time you're actually seeing General Hospital should be less than you're accustomed to, and that's a big win in our book. Check out our quick impressions (and video) after the break! The Engadget app for Android is finally, really here!

Everyone, stop what you're doing. The day you've been patiently waiting for has finally come. That's right, the Engadget app is now available for the Android platform... totally free, of course. Can you believe it? Owners of Android 1.5 devices and up will finally have access to the unedited, unrestrained application, which allows quick access to Engadget, Engadget Mobile, and Engadget HD, podcasts, the Engadget Show, galleries, and more. Just as in the iPhone and webOS versions of the app, you've got full support for commenting, options to tip us, and lots of ways to share news with friends, family, or mortal enemies. We're also constantly updating, and we have plans for some changes right out of the gate -- like a homescreen widget that should be coming in the next version, so you can always stay on top of Engadget news. Keep in mind, we're still going to be cranking away on all our other versions too (the BlackBerry and webOS apps have just recently been updated) -- so expect more good stuff coming your way. Okay, less talk more rock -- the app, er... prog, is available for download right now from the Android Market. Go get it! Sprint to release Android 2.1 update for Hero and Moment ‘over the coming weeks’

If you recall, about a month ago Sprint tweeted that it was working on delivering Android 2.1 upgrade for its HTC Hero and Samsung Moment in early Q2 this year. An optimistic guess would be April, right? Funnily enough, Techie Buzz has heard that two eager customers managed to squeeze a more precise date out of Sprint over a phone call -- end of March or even March 26th. Don't go reaching for that champagne just yet, though -- a self-proclaimed Sprint employee shared a recent internal memo on XDA-Developers forum, revealing that it's "actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks," and that "more information coming in April." Oh Sprint, you do love playing with our little minds, don't you? Adéu, Barcelona: MWC 2010 draws to a close

For the industry, the press, and phone geeks alike, the GSMA's Mobile World Congress in the lovely Catalonian capital of Barcelona is the biggest event of the year -- and apart from a few unplanned power outages at Engadget's home base, an average nightly rest hovering around three hours, and unseasonably cold weather, 2010's gathering didn't disappoint.
