Official: iPad Launching Here April 3, Pre-Orders March 12 [Ipad]
It's official: iPad's launching in the US on April 3, with the 3G model coming later in the month. Pre-orders start next week , March 12. It's just about on time. April 3, interestingly, is a Saturday, and exactly 59 66 days after the iPad launch , placing it within the 60-90 day availability window Jobs promised. Apple's still not setting an exact date for the 3G model, promising late April. Pre-orders start a week from today. For folks uh-broad—Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK—both vanilla Wi-Fi and 3G models are launching simultaneously in "late April." While we now know it's April 3, what we're still wondering about D-Day: How many native iPad apps are launching with it? Will there be lines? (Well, probably.) But will there be shortages , as some analysts have suggested? Also, Apple says iPad will be available through "select Authorized Retailers." Does that mean Best Buy will get in on the launch action? So, raise your hand if you're waiting for the 3G model! iPad Available in US on April 3 Pre-Order on March 12 CUPERTINO, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Apple® today announced that its magical and revolutionary iPad will be available in the US on Saturday, April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. Mysterious yellow and black cards lead to wild Nikon speculation
You know what's black and yellow all over, fits in the average mailbox and gets the imaginations of camera junkies running wild? These cards, that's what. Over the past few days, mysterious cards have begun to arrive in the hands of Nikon users, and while the company's name is nowhere to be found, the colors and hints are starting to build a case for something new. It seems a countdown from 8 has begun, with the first card stating "I am..." and the second "I am fun...." In case you weren't aware, Nikon has yet to dabble in the Micro Four Thirds world (or even hint at a competitor like Samsung's NX range ), but whispers of a so-called EVIL lineup have been building steam. Nikon aficionados have pointed out that the countdown will end just prior to a UK press meeting on March 8th, which could very well mean that an all-new compact is just days away from being properly revealed. Or it could be nothing at all . Keep your expectations low -- it's better to be pleasantly surprised than deflated and alone, right? Construct an Ultra-Slow Pinhole Camera to Create Surreal Photos [Camera Hacks]
If you were impressed by the interesting results and novelty of a plain old pinhole camera, you'll want to check out these crazy pinhole cameras and their month long exposures. You read that correctly. Ultra slow pinhole photographers use special paper that takes months of light streaming through the pinhole to develop. From Ollipekka Kangas, a slow pinhole photographer: Basically solarigraphic camera is a pinhole camera, very slow one. These pinhole photographs taken with a lensless pinhole camera with a extra long exposure. I use black&white paper which is 5-10 ASA. Exposure time can be very long, in some photos up to six months. Usually average camera is hidden in city for one to two months. The picture will appear without developing photographic paper with any kind of chemicals. Exposured paper is scanned in darkness and developed in Photoshop. All the cameras are very low tech, cheap boxes, canisters or film cans. This method in is antidope for digital photographic madness. I can take only like 5 pictures in month. Sun draws many interesting traces in photos, you can really see the time passing by. Some times camera is tilted by passerby or tape just goes loose. Double exposures or traces of humidity can be seen in photos. The video below showcases photos by Ollipekka: Slow pinhole photography is definitely the extreme opposite of the instant gratificaiton of snapping a picture on a DSLR and immediately checking it on the LCD screen. The results are also far removed from those you could capture with a digital camera, providing you with a distinctly analog way of recording the life of a location over days, weeks, and months. Check out the link below for additional samples and examples of slow pinhole camera construction—some of the entries aren't in English and some are, but the design of the camera is apparent from the photos. Casio’s EX-10HG Camera Is Bringing Its Special Indoor Geotagging To the Table In October [Cameras]
Announced at CES, the GPS-enabled EX-10HG from Casio has been a bit of a mystery so far, but has just been given full launch details, with the price expected to be in the region of $400 when it hits in October. That's a good 10-month long wait, and it's not like the EX-10HG is the first camera with geotagging—though Casio uses three-axis accelerometers and an orientation sensor for gauging the correct GPS position, which can sometimes become unclear when indoors. This 12.1-megapixel model has a 10x zoom lens and records video at 720p, so it's not like it's just a basic point and shoot with a GPS sensor rammed in as an afterthought. Alternatively, the Eye-Fi Geo SD card adds geotagging to your photos, and doesn't have a 10-month wait. [ Photography Bay via Gadget Venue via Geeky-Gadgets Image Credit: DC Watch

Limited Edition Pentax K-7 Camera Forgets Silver Isn’t a Rare Color In Camera-Land [Cameras]
I'd be more excited if this special limited edition color was a never-seen-before color, but alas Pentax thinks the camera world can still get excited about silver . Or maybe silver is rare in Japan, where this model is launching? The K-7 has been around since last summer , but only 1,000 of these limited edition model exist. If the new silver color, a reinforced LCD screen and new firmware and image processing software is making your fingers itch at the thought of flying out to Japan to scoop one up, it's on sale March 13th for the equivalent of $1,420. Apart from those minor changes, it's still the same old 14.6-megapixel, 720-p-shooting camera which can be picked up for as low as $1,000 on Amazon . [ CrunchGear ]

GE outs PMA 2010 range: X5, E1486TW, E1480W, J1455 and waterproof G5WP
Not sure if anyone clued you in, but there's a reasonably large camera show going on in Anaheim, and the shooter news is flowing hot and heavy. General Imaging (or GE , as it were) has just busted out its 2010 range of point and shoot cameras, and while none of 'em are particularly mind-blowing , there are a few here worth paying attention to. The waterproof G5WP (ships in late Q2 for $179.99) is a natural successor to last year's G3WP , offering up a metal enclosure, 4x internal zoom, a 12.2 megapixel sensor and your choice of gray, red or blue color schemes. The $149.99 X5 megazoom offers up a 15x zoom lens, a maximum ISO of 3,200 and a Q2 ship date, while the J1455 brings a 14.2 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, image stabilization and a multitude of color options for $129.99. The 'Power Series' is seeing two new additions today in the 0.83-inch thick E1486TW ($179.99) and E1480W ($149.99), both of which include HD movie modes, optical image stabilization, a 14 megapixel sensor, an 8x optical zoomer and a 3-inch rear LCD. The company's low-end C- and A-series cameras are also seeing updates today, all of which are detailed in the linked presser.
