First Official NASA iPhone Game Is Science Fiction [IPhone App]

NASA has released their first iPhone game. It's called the NASA Lunar Electric Rover Simulator and, instead of making me happierer than a kid in a candy store wearing a Batman cape, reading the description makes me sad: Welcome to the NASA Lunar Electric Rover (LER) Simulator. You don't need a driver's license, but you still need to buckle up as the LER Simulator gives you a glimpse of what it might be like to support the activities of a functioning Lunar Outpost. Get busy. You never know if your skills here will become a major part of the NASA Astronaut application process in the future. Sadly, and since there are not going to be any NASA mission to the moon , we know that these skills would be useless. Unless that, by " NASA Lunar Electric Rover Simulator " they really mean "Soyuz Spacecraft Push Some Russian Buttons Simulator." In any case, go to the App Store and enjoy the free game, because the real thing is not going to happen. [ iTunes via Krapps ]

Sezmi launches $20 per month cable/satellite alternative today in L.A.

After a trial period , Sezmi is finally available to those looking for a way out from under overloaded and overpriced cable and satellite TV packages. $299 fetches the Sezmi System, with 1TB HD Media Recorder, OTA antenna and remote, then choose either a $5/month Select Service plan limited to whatever broadcast networks you can pull in plus IPTV sources and VOD (YouTube, CinemaNow, etc.) or the Sezmi Select Plus package at $19.99 which adds familiar premium networks including USA, CNN, MTV, Syfy and more, also delivered over antenna. In case you like what you're hearing, all that traditional TV and internet content gets blended together in the company's unique UI (check out our CES 2010 hands-on for a preview) that can be personalized for each person in the house. Of course the revolution isn't without its downsides, as it's currently only available in the L.A. area (Select Service goes nationwide this spring, with Plus expansions planned for the summer) while a lack of ESPN and no HD on any of the premium channels will serve to kill its appeal for some. Don't plan on grabbing one at the Burbank Buy More either as it's a Best Buy exclusive for now, but if your zip code and TV watching needs fit the description then check out the introduction video and press release embedded after the break. MIT’s Food Printer Is Making Ferran Adrià Weak at the Knees [Food]

I don't know if this Cornucopia food printer —an MIT project that assembles ingredients in layers—will ever be a reality, but I'm sure lab cuisine chefs like Ferran Adrià are already lining up just based on the description: Cornucopia's cooking process starts with an array of food canisters, which refrigerate and store a user's favorite ingredients. These are piped into a mixer and extruder head that can accurately deposit elaborate combinations of food. Marcelo Coelho and Amit Zoran, the students behind the project at MIT's Fluid Interfaces Group, say that this printer will give "ultimate control over the origin, quality, nutritional value and taste of every meal." It will also make it look and feel like crap, I'm sure. But it's ok, because there's one layered food that can be synthesized without trouble with this thing: Bacon. I'm sold.
